Wednesday 22 July brought exciting news for several of our Year 6 students, with the announcement of the results from the Virtual RoboCup Junior Spike Prime Competition.
The nationwide competition challenged students from across Australia to design, build and program an autonomous robot based on the theme "Survivors of the Future – Robots on a New World." Students were tasked with creating a robot capable of autonomously exploring and navigating a new world, with solutions incorporating concepts such as animal-inspired movement, supply delivery, habitat construction, and signal and survival coding.
We are delighted to share that both Thomas Hassall Anglican College teams placed among the top 10 teams in New South Wales.
- Team Operation Martian Water, comprising James L and Jason O, achieved 7th place in NSW.
- Team TurtleBot, comprising Margaret O, Georgia G and Olivia E, achieved an outstanding 2nd place in NSW.
These results are a remarkable achievement and reflect the students' creativity, problem-solving skills, perseverance and collaborative approach throughout the project.
This marks the first time Thomas Hassall Anglican College has entered the RoboCup Junior Spike Prime Competition and the first opportunity for these students to engineer and program an autonomous robot to complete a real-world challenge.
