This term, students in Kindergarten, Year 2 and Year 3 are taking part in exciting new Dance programs as part of the NSW Creative Arts syllabus. These engaging units help students discover that dance is a creative way to express ideas, tell stories and celebrate culture.
In Kindergarten, students explore how their bodies can create shapes and simple stories. Through imaginative activities, they develop coordination, confidence and safe movement practices while learning that dance can communicate ideas. Students also discover how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use dance to share stories and traditions.
In Year 2, students learn that dance is a universal language. They explore the elements of dance, including space, time and dynamics, as they create and perform their own movement sequences. They also experience dance from a range of cultures, building an appreciation of how dance connects people and communities.
In Year 3, students begin creating more complex dance works by exploring the elements of dance to communicate ideas, emotions and stories. Working collaboratively, they improvise, compose, rehearse and refine movement while developing confidence and performance skills.
Across all three year groups, these programs encourage creativity and collaboration while helping students appreciate dance as an important form of artistic and cultural expression. We look forward to sharing their learning with the College community throughout the term.
