Year 2 students have been diving into the fascinating world of 3D objects as part of their recent Mathematics unit. They have been using mathematical language such as face, edge, vertex, and curved surface to identify and discuss a variety of 3D objects in their environment. Through a combination of visual and kinaesthetic learning experiences, students explored and manipulated a range of real-life 3D shapes to deepen their understanding of how these features define different objects.
To consolidate their learning, students had the exciting opportunity to create their own 3D objects using playdough and matchsticks. This hands-on activity supported their ability to identify, compare, and describe features with increased confidence and accuracy. By engaging in practical, exploratory tasks, students not only strengthened their mathematical vocabulary but also built a solid understanding for recognising and working with three-dimensional objects in the world around them.
