On the final week of term, students from Prep to Year 6 embarked on an exciting journey of discovery as we welcomed a range of talented authors to our College.
In Tuesday 23 June our Year 1 and Three-Day Prep students were captivated by Lisa Shanahan, who shared her delightful stories and encouraged students to discover the wonder of imagination through books. Inspired by her visit, one enthusiastic Year One class used leftover paper to create and write their very own books, excitedly sharing their stories with friends and teachers.
Lesley Gibbes guided our Year 2 students in discovering how descriptive language can bring writing to life, encouraging them to paint vivid pictures with their words and engage their readers through imaginative detail.
Year 3 students were thrilled to learn from Kristin Darell, whose engaging workshop encouraged them to discover new ways to express their ideas through writing. Kristin also led our Winning Writers Workshop in the afternoon, providing selected students from Years 1 to 6 with valuable insights and encouragement to further develop their writing skills.
Year 4 students enjoyed interactive sessions with Ashleigh Barton, discovering how everyday experiences and sparks of inspiration can be transformed into compelling stories. Her enthusiasm encouraged students to look for story ideas all around them.
A highlight for Year 5 was meeting one of their favourite authors, Deborah Abela, who challenged students to discover imaginative worlds, develop dynamic characters and think deeply about the choices authors make when crafting stories.
Year 6 students delved into the writing process with Tim Harris, whose energetic and engaging presentation helped students discover how humour, creativity and perseverance contribute to successful storytelling.
Our Kindergarten and Two-Day Prep students also enjoyed a special visit from Penny Reeve on Thursday 25 June, where they explored the world of books, authors and writing. Penny shared some of her favourite characters and showed students how God can be seen in all parts of our lives, inspiring them to look for wonder and meaning in everyday experiences.
It was a truly inspiring week filled with creativity and discovery, leaving students excited to continue exploring the world of reading, writing and storytelling.
