This term in Kindergarten Visual Arts, students have been exploring the use of lines and shapes and how artists use these elements to create meaning in their work. We looked closely at different types of lines—straight, wavy, zigzag—and how shapes can be used in creative ways.
To deepen our understanding, we were inspired by the vibrant illustrations in Dr Bronwyn Bancroft’s Aboriginal children’s books. As a proud Bundjalung woman and celebrated artist, Bancroft uses bold lines, intricate patterns, and bright colours to share stories and culture. Students responded to these artworks by creating their own pieces, experimenting with line, shape, and colour to express their ideas and reflect what they saw in Bancroft’s work.
It has been a joyful and expressive term of creativity, learning, and connection to Aboriginal art and storytelling.
